Impacting Communities Through Your Voice

Make a Difference With Your Story

The communities of Reading, Muhlenberg, and beyond need to hear your story of how violence in our community has impacted you in direct and/or indirect ways. By hearing the words of those storytellers who experience individual and/or community violence, more people will understand why THEY need to become involved in violence intervention and prevention.

Telling and sharing stories has many benefits, including helping individuals to better understand their own experiences and to feel and recognize the power of their own voice.

Telling and sharing stories also has risks, including re-living the traumatic experience and feeling strong emotions like fear and grief.

You may be able to minimize these risks by doing the following:

  • Follow your instincts and pause or stop when you need to.
  • Know that you do not have to share every part of your story.

Story Guidelines for Storytellers

Your stories can be short or long.

If audio or video recording your story, please try to limit it to 30 minutes.

If you are writing your story, please try to limit it to 2500 words.
